In the land of black gold workers sleeping on the street.

Summary: In the Jaén region thousands of workers are needed for the olive harvest. For years the seasonal migrants have provided the bulk of the workforce but since the economic context brings local workers to turn to agriculture. So there is not enough work for everyone and hundreds of migrants find themselves on the street, lack of employment and housing. The SOC (farm workers’ union) advocates that recruitments are made through the job center so that migrants do not move in vain. Companies refuse to because they direct recruitment – that allows playing of competition between workers by changing the numbers at will – remains advantageous.
